Rebecca is a second year Master in Urban Planning student at the Graduate School of Design. Originally from Toronto, Rebecca studied urban and regional planning at Ryerson University in Canada and served as the Undergraduate Student Representative on the Ryerson University Research Ethics Board for two years. This service remains one of her definitive learning experiences. Rebecca was considering work in Jamaica when life took a turn in direction to another part of the world. Rebecca worked for the Canadian International Development Agency for a year in northern Malawi, followed by a year and half in Ghana in the university development sector. Upon returning to Toronto, she worked briefly for Cancer Care Ontario (Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care) during which time she became interested in connecting some of the parallel challenges she saw across development systems in different countries, in areas including education, health care, and governance. Inspired by these experiences, Rebecca decided to once again explore urban planning with a design lens and at different scales at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design.
