Michael Haggerty is a third-year graduate student in the Master in Architecture 1 program at Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He previously received a Master in Urban Planning degree from the GSD, and attended Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. Since graduating from Bard, Michael has lived primarily in New York City. Michael is interested in how architecture addresses environmental sustainability and climate change, and how architects engage communities to create public participation in urban development. His work as an urban planner has taken place in a range of settings, including recovery planning in post-Katrina New Orleans; master planning for the City of Newark, NJ; public space design in the Bronx; strategic planning for Indonesian cities with UN-Habitat; and participatory planning in Luanda, Angola.
