Maria Duarte, MD

Maria is a fourth year medical student at Harvard Medical School. She was born in Colombia and grew up in Miami, Florida. She attended the University of Florida, where she received dual degrees in Biology and Anthropology, and participated extensively in undergraduate research as a Beckman Scholar. In college and before enrolling in medical school, she was also involved in creating mobile clinic initiatives to provide healthcare access to underserved groups. While in medical school, Maria has been involved in the Crimson Care Collaborative student-faculty clinic as a research director and has served as TA for first year medical students.  She is currently spending a year working full time in a neurotology lab at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, developing auditory neuroprosthetics using optogenetics. She is interested in global and public health and innovative scientific research, and hopes to integrate these aspects of medicine into her clinical career. Her hobbies include reading, writing, painting and scuba diving.
