Janan Omar


Janan is currently pursuing an M.Ed in International Education Policy at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. Prior to HGSE, Janan studied Foreign Affairs at the University of Virginia and worked for several years at both the Institute of International Education and the Academy for Educational Development. Her previous work experience includes projects sponsored by the governments of Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the U.A.E and the United States. She has just completed the management of a three-year, $1.5 million dollar program focused on enabling youth entrepreneurship in Egypt.

Janan is passionate about education policy and how it can foster positive education reform, gender equity and innovation in the Middle East. Outside of class, Janan organized and moderated a panel on youth unemployment during Harvard Arab Weekend and is a contributor and editor for Harvard’s Journal on Middle Eastern Politics and Policy. As a recipient of the Egypt Public Service Fellowship, she is eager to return to her home country post-graduation to continue working in the field of education development. In her free time Janan enjoys traveling, designing furniture and playing video games with her husband.
