Ivana Viani is a medical degree candidate at Harvard Medical School focused on improving the U.S. health care delivery system. She was born and raised in eastern Croatia, which was then under the communist rule. Ivana was witness to the Croatian War of Independence, and to one of the world’s greatest hyperinflations of all time. Following her high school graduation, Ivana immigrated to the U.S. alone, and spent years working in industries as diverse as insurance marketing, graphic design, and public safety. She was the first of her family to go to college, and graduated summa cum laude with an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from Bergen Community College, and Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Her past research included projects in social, cognitive, and evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, and ethics.
