A proud native of Oklahoma, Austin Slaymaker is pursuing a Masters in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) with a concentration International and Global Affairs. An Phi Beta Kappa alumnus of the University of Oklahoma’s David L. Boren College of International Studies, he studied abroad with UVA’s Semester at Sea program.
Before HKS, Austin worked for three legislative sessions as a State Budget Analyst in the Oklahoma Office of State Finance, advising the Governor’s office on legislative and fiscal policy implications and providing statutory oversight of state agencies in the cabinets of natural resources, education, and economic development. A Thomas R. Pickering Fellow, he has committed to serve as a Foreign Service Officer for the U.S. State Department after graduate school. Austin has strong interest in international diplomacy and development. His wife, Alyssa, works as an industrial engineer for the Healthcare Systems Engineering Institute in Boston.
