Ariel is currently a first-year Master of Landscape Architecture candidate at Harvard Graduate School of Design. Born in China but grew up in Canada and the US, Ariel graduated from New York University in May 2017 with a B.A in Urban Design and Architecture Studies. During her time at NYU she had the opportunity to study abroad in Germany, the U.K, and China. She conducted research on these countries’ low-income urban communities, and observed first-hand how these communities often inhabited poorly designed built environments that disregarded the inhabitants’ basic needs. She developed a passion for shaping thriving and happy communities and improving the lives of their inhabitants through designing a healthy built environment. During her time at Harvard and beyond, Ariel would like to grow as a designer who is not only sympathetic and attentive to the needs of the people and communities she works with, but is also able to gather resources to achieve her vision of developing robust built environments and motivate others to join her in this endeavor. Outside academia, the things that bring her the most joy are traveling and spending time with her loved ones as well as growing in her Christian faith.
