Abigail Weil

Weil_AbigailAbigail is a second-year doctoral student in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures.  A Cleveland native, Weil earned her Bachelor’s at Bard College with a major in Russian literature.  Receiving a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship upon graduation, Weil spent a year at the Ural State Pedagogical University in Yekaterinburg, Russia teaching English language, American literature and creative writing.  Following her Fulbright year, Weil moved to Austin, Texas where she worked as a preschool teacher, paralegal and artisanal popsicles peddler before finally entering the University of Texas’ Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies.  It was at UT that Weil developed her interest in Czech language and literature, fostered by a partnership between the university and Texas Czech community; today she is proud to wear the academic label of a Bohemist.  Weil’s chief academic interest is twentieth century Czech prose, particularly from the interwar period, but she also addresses herself to food writing, mystifications and hip hop.
